Good Credit Repair Companies in Providence?

I’m based in Providence, RI, and I’ve been trying to get my credit back on track after a rough few years. I’ve been handling some of it on my own paying things off, disputing old collections but I’m thinking it might be time to get some professional help.

I’m specifically looking for credit repair companies in the Providence area (or even Rhode Island in general) that are legit and actually care about helping people—not just taking your money and doing the bare minimum.

If anyone here has:
  • Worked with a credit repair service locally
  • Had good (or bad) experiences with any specific company
  • Knows of any nonprofit credit counselors or financial coaching programs in the area

I used Coastline Credit Solutions in Warwick and they were decent. Not miracle workers but they explained everything well and didn’t make wild promises. Took about 5 months to see a real bump. Communication was consistent which helped my peace of mind.

Honestly, I had better luck with CCCS of Rhode Island (Consumer Credit Counseling Service). They’re nonprofit and don’t upsell you anything. I got a full review, a debt management plan, and budgeting tips that actually worked. Worth a call.

Be careful with companies that advertise credit sweep services. Most of them are shady or straight-up scams. If someone tells you they can wipe out all negative history overnight then run. No one legit makes those claims.

Not in Providence, but I worked remotely with Sky Blue Credit Repair and they were upfront and super responsive. Nothing flashy, just solid results. I think it cost me around $79/month? They got some old medical debts removed that I’d failed at disputing.

Try checking with local credit unions too. I’m with Navigant Credit Union and they partnered me with a financial coach who helped rebuild my credit. Didn’t even charge me extra just part of their customer service.

some repair companies just send out automated disputes and charge you for it. You can honestly do that yourself using templates from NerdWallet or Reddit. But if you need guidance or accountability, totally fair to get help.

have you checked out the Capital Good Fund in Providence? They’re a nonprofit offering financial coaching and small loans. My cousin used them for credit repair and budgeting support and spoke highly of them.

I did Lexington Law years ago and it felt like paying $100/month for generic disputes. No local vibe and I barely heard from them unless i bugged them. I’d go local or nonprofit if I were you.

I just worked with Lighthouse Financial Group in Cranston and was really impressed. They did a full review of my credit report, explained each negative mark, and even called a couple collectors with me.

My rule is if a company won’t give you a free consultation and explain their plan before you pay, they’re probably not it. The good ones don’t hide behind paywalls. Ask tons of questions.

I used to work in collections and I’ll say this: some of the most effective repair happens when people just negotiate settlements themselves and get deletion agreements. DIY can go a long way.

I’ve been using Credit Saint and while they’re not local, I’ve seen progress. They send me reports each month with disputes and outcomes. That said, it feels a bit cookie-cutter. A local firm might be more attentive.

Rhode Island Legal Services has a financial justice program mostly for low-income folks but they do offer credit report help. Worth looking into if you're struggling.

Totally agree with folks saying to check nonprofit orgs. NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley sometimes offers financial education and credit coaching classes. Might not be a 1-on-1 repair service, but super helpful.

Can’t speak to RI companies, but I do recommend pulling your full credit reports from all 3 bureaus free at annualcreditreport.com before hiring anyone. That way you’ll know exactly what to focus on.

Credit repair takes patience. No one is going to fix it in 30 days like the ads say. I’ve been at it for 14 months and went from 520 to 680. Mix of DIY, coaching from a church group, and one paid service.

If you’ve got student loans in default, check if you’re eligible for Fresh Start through the Dept of Ed before going to a credit repair company. That helped boost my score by 60 points alone.

I worked with RI Credit Restoration.....they used to be in East Providence but i think they shut down. Shame because they were affordable and really responsive.

Shoutout to Providence Community Health Centers ....weird recommendation, i know but they sometimes offer financial wellness workshops. My aunt learned budgeting skills there and got her credit back on track.
