Credit Repair Services in Charleston, SC

Someone here can share their experience or advice about using credit repair services in Charleston, SC. My credit took a hit over the last few years due to some unexpected life events medical bills, job loss, the usual stuff and while I’ve made a bit of progress on my own, I’m starting to feel like I need some professional help to really move things along.

I’ve come across a few companies online and seen some ads for local services, but honestly, it’s hard to tell what’s legit and what’s just another way to take advantage of people trying to get back on track. Some places promise fast results, but I’ve heard that can be a red flag.

If anyone here has worked with a credit repair service in Charleston, I’d love to hear how it went. Did they actually help? Were they transparent about everything? And how long did it take before you started to see real changes?

I’m just trying to get my credit back in shape so I can eventually qualify for a decent mortgage rate. Any personal stories, warnings, or even tips for doing it on your own would be super appreciated.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond. This stuff can be overwhelming, and it helps to hear from real people who've been through it

I used a local place called Palmetto Credit Rebuilders last year. They were honest from the start told me it would take months not weeks. No shady promises. They walked me through each dispute they filed. My score jumped 87 points in 6 months. Worth every penny but you’ve gotta stay on top of them.

Honestly i tried Lexington Law and felt like i was just another file in their system. Then I switched to a guy here in West Ashley who runs his own shop. Way more personal. He even gave budgeting tips. Slow process but more impactful than the big names IMO.

Medical bills wrecked me too.......i didn’t use a service, but I followed a DIY plan from r/personalfinance. Sent my own dispute letters and negotiated pay-for-delete with 2 collectors. Took like a year but saved a TON. I say try DIY unless your report’s super messy.

Be cautious of anyone saying we’ll wipe your record in 30 days. That’s just not how credit works. The laws FCRA and all do give you some power, but real change is slow. If they’re not transparent about their process or fees, run.

If your goal is to qualify for a mortgage, maybe talk to a loan officer too? Some lenders have credit rehab programs or can tell you what actually matters. Not every derogatory mark kills your chances. A 640 with good DTI might get you farther than a 720 with no money down.

I did a free consult with a Charleston-based company and they quoted me $150/month for unlimited disputes. Sounded fishy. When i asked what their success rate was the rep kinda danced around it. Sketch vibes.

Try checking if the service is a member of National Association of Credit Services Orgs. It is not a guarantee but it's a decent first filter. Also check reviews OFF their website...Google, BBB, Reddit. Yelp can be hit or miss.

I messed with one of those Facebook ads once… big mistake ....Charged me $99 setup then ghosted me for 3 weeks. Ended up getting a chargeback. If it looks like an MLM or has affiliate marketers, stay away.

I used The Credit Pros not Charleston-based but they operate nationwide. They removed 3 collections and helped me get a secured card. Took 4 months to see real change. They were okay but i honestly could’ve followed the same steps myself.

I worked with a nonprofit credit counselor instead of a for-profit repair service. Big difference. They helped me build a debt payoff plan and actually taught me stuff. Check out NFCC.org to find someone legit.

As a loan officer i’ll echo others: the fix your credit fast crowd is usually smoke and mirrors. A few points can be gained with utilization tricks, but deeper damage takes real time. Ask for a copy of your credit audit before signing anything.

if you’re gonna pay for deletion get everything in writing before sending money. I’ve seen cases where people paid, and the debt just sat there. Collectors lie all the time. Charleston has a few who play nice but many don’t.

I worked with a service out of North Charleston last year. They weren’t shady but the progress was minimal. They disputed some old stuff but it just came back verified. I feel like they copy/pasted letters and hoped for the best.

Not Charleston but i used Sky Blue. Decent service, fair pricing, and they don’t overpromise. They explain their tactics too. I didn’t feel scammed. My credit isn’t perfect now but it’s workable.

Anyone here used Safeport Law? I see them all over Charleston IG ads lately. Curious if they’re just good at marketing or actually get results?

I talked to Safeport too! They’re actually attorneys so they take a more legal approach. It is pricier but they seemed more serious than the flashy types. I’m still deciding if i should commit.

Credit repair works best when YOU do your homework. Services can help, sure but don’t expect miracles unless you understand your own report. Know what a 609 letter is. Know what’s accurate and what’s not.

Honestly one of the best services i found was Reddit and YouTube. There are solid creators explaining step by step how to clean your credit legally. Use that knowledge to judge whether a company knows their stuff.

If your credit took a hit from medical bills, check if those were reported after the recent FICO changes. A lot of medical debt under $500 is supposed to be removed. You might not even need a service
