Elusive 850 Credit Score – Has Anyone Actually Hit It?

Just wondering has anyone here actually reached an 850 credit score, or even gotten close?

I've been steadily building my credit for years now. Perfect payment history, low utilization, long credit age, solid mix of accounts... yet the score still hovers in the 820–830 range. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but it’s kind of wild how 850 feels more like a myth than a realistic number.

From what I understand, anything above 800 is already considered “excellent,” and there’s no real practical benefit to chasing 850... but there’s something oddly satisfying about the idea of a “perfect score,” right?

Is there a secret sauce? Is it just about timing and patience? Or does it come down to being in the right place at the right time when the algorithms decide to bless you?

Yeah I actually hit 850 once on Experian. Stayed there for like… a week ......Then i opened a new credit card and it dipped to 843. It’s like balancing a marble on a pin technically possible but not for long.

There’s no secret sauce just math and time. The scoring models vary slightly between bureaus and depend on when your lenders report. I’ve been at 847 for a year. Opened a store card = 830. Go figure.

I think chasing 850 is like trying to collect all the Pokémon. It’s cool to say you did it but functionally unnecessary. Lenders don’t care after 800. But yeah… i still want it lol.

Been sitting at 849 for 6 months now. No joke. The one point mocks me. I pay everything on time, 1% utilization, mix of loans, and still... 849. I'm convinced FICO is trolling me.

Honestly the only people I’ve known to hit 850 are old AF with 40-year credit histories, mortgages paid off, no inquiries in the last decade and a wallet older than the internet.

You’re not alone. I’m in the 825 range and feel like i’ve hit a ceiling. I know logically there’s no need to max out your score but emotionally it feels like finishing a game without hitting 100%.

Bro i once got a 3-point boost from paying a $12 balance. It’s voodoo out here. No one knows what’s real anymore. Just keep doing your thing.

From a lender’s perspective: 805 or 850 = same tier. You’ll get the best rates either way. It’s diminishing returns after a point but i get the appeal of that perfect number.

I hit 850 on two bureaus last year. Took decades of clean history, low debt, and not touching my credit for YEARS. Basically: be boring with your finances and wait.

At this point i’d settle for consistency. Experian says 831, TransUnion says 808 and Equifax is over here throwing dice like it’s a craps table. Make it make sense.

I don’t chase the number, i chase the perks. Once I crossed 800, doors opened: better cards, better limits, mortgage approved fast. 850 is just ego.

Honestly feels like the difference between 830 and 850 is just the system messing with you. No human would rate someone differently based on that.

My partner and i both got to 847 around the same time. She paid off her car loan.........i applied for a new card. She dropped 12 pts, i dropped 7. It’s a game with weird rules.

You know what’s harder than 850? Staying there. The score is volatile. A soft pull, a balance report, or even closing an old card can cause fluctuations.

I just cracked 800 this year and already feel like I’m in the VIP lounge. Can’t imagine what the 850 club must feel like. Do they get secret handshake privileges?

you could hit 850 and still get denied for a rental because your income’s not 3x the rent. Credit scores are only part of the hustle.

Not to be a buzzkill but the exact algorithms are proprietary. You could be doing everything right and still never hit 850. Doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

Been hovering at 828 for a year. Mortgage paid no revolving balances, 20-year-old accounts… but still no 850. Honestly i think you need to sacrifice a goat under a full moon or something. FICO voodoo.

I totally get the obsession. I'm at 833 and still feel like there's an imaginary wall I can't break. My partner doesn't get it......says it's just a number but for me it's proof of financial discipline. Perfection is oddly addictive.
