A friend of mine is trying to fix their credit before applying for a mortgage, and we’re looking for a local service that’s actually reliable. There are so many options online, but it’s hard to tell which ones are legit and which are just making big promises.

If you’ve worked with a credit repair company or specialist in the Tinley Park area or know someone who has I’d really appreciate any recommendations or honest feedback. Just trying to find someone who’s professional, transparent and gets results
 
We used a company called Credit Rx Solutions in Orland Park, which is super close to Tinley. My wife’s credit jumped almost 100 points in 5 months. They were transparent about what they could and couldn’t remove. No magic promises, just solid dispute letters and follow-ups. It cost us about $99/month. Worth every penny since we got a great mortgage rate in the end. DM if you want their contact.
 
Avoid the flashy ones promising to delete bankruptcies overnight. That’s not how this works. Real credit repair takes time and usually includes helping you build good habits not just deleting stuff. We worked with a financial coach out of Tinley Park Library’s business development program. Free sessions, too. Might be worth checking that out before spending hundreds.
 
Been down this road. I tried two online services and one local guy in Tinley.....Dan the Credit Man or something like that. Only the local guy gave me one-on-one time. He sat with me, explained how credit scoring really works, and gave me a plan. No lies, just strategy. In 8 months my score went from 589 to 690. I was able to qualify for an FHA loan after that. Patience and good info is key.
 
Honestly most repair companies charge for what you can do yourself. Like disputing errors via Experian/TransUnion/Equifax....it’s free. That said if your friend is overwhelmed, a service can help. I’ve heard good things about Credit Glory (though they’re national). For local, you might check with realtors they often know credit pros they trust.
 
I'm near Tinley and went with Clean Slate Credit Repair. They work out of Oak Forest but serve Tinley too. Not cheap ($129/mo) but they DO the work. Took 6 months, but they cleared 4 collections and helped me open a secured card. Bonus: they educated me about utilization ratios. Now my score is 727
 
I did mine solo using the Reddit Credit Repair 101 post. But a coworker used a local credit counselor through Prairie State College and got free help. Not sure if it’s still running post-COVID, but worth a call. Tinley’s not far from there. If money’s tight i’d start with non-profits before jumping into paid repair services.
 
Biggest green flag in a credit repair service? They dont promise a specific score increase. That’s actually illegal. We worked with Resurge Financial in Tinley Park.....very professional and even helped with budgeting. Took 9 months but no more charge-offs haunting me. Just beware of any company asking for big upfront fees. Red flag.
 
Not in Tinley but i’m a loan officer in Oak Lawn. We usually refer people to Midwest Credit Advocates they’re licensed, ethical, and work with local lenders so they know what underwriters want to see. Some credit fixes actually hurt mortgage apps, so go with someone experienced. Don’t just pick a flashy website.
 
lol i almost hired Speedy Credit Experts off Instagram because their ads were fire. Glad i didn’t. Found out from Yelp they were basically copy-pasting dispute letters with wrong info. Friend of mine used South Suburban Credit Repair and had better luck. Apparently they actually do a soft pull and tailor your plan.
 
most people don’t need repair they need credit building. Open a secured card, become an authorized user on a family member’s good card, and pay everything on time. That alone got me from 520 to 660 in 7 months. Still if there’s inaccurate info, dispute it yourself. Or at least make sure your service offers that.
 
There’s a dude on Facebook Marketplace offering guaranteed 800+ score in 45 days....please don’t fall for that. A legit company should educate and guide not guarantee miracles. Your friend deserves better. If they’re close to 580, look into FHA lenders that help with rebuildin, too.
 
Has anyone tried Illinois Credit Fixers near Tinley? My cousin mentioned them but i haven’t found any real reviews. I’m curious if they’re good or just another template-disputing service. We need someone who’s hands-on especially since there’s a tax lien we’re trying to get removed.
 
I hired a credit guru who just printed out the FTC dispute template, slapped my name on it, and mailed it. Charged me $299. Never again. That being said i’ve heard Freedom Path Credit Counseling in Joliet actually helps people rebuild the RIGHT way no fluff. Might be worth the drive.
 
My wife and i just bought a home in Tinley after working with a lady named Tina from Strategic Credit Consulting. She’s a one-woman show but thorough AF. Helped us clean up some dumb collections from 2017. Plus she’s super nice and didn’t talk down to us. Message me if you want her number.
 
If your friend is close to 620, honestly just keep making payments, lower utilization, and open a secured card or two. My dad used Credit Repair Chicago Southside and they did okay, but it was still the habits that mattered. Services can help but they’re not magic.
 
Not Tinley-specific but have your friend check with the Better Business Bureau before choosing anyone. Look for complaints, unresolved issues, and lawsuits. Also check if the company is bonded in Illinois. The ones that are usually take things more seriously.
 
I was embarrassed at first but working with a credit repair coach was the best move i made. I used a virtual service based in Homewood but we met at a Tinley Panera lol. She walked me through everything step-by-step and didn’t ghost me. Super grateful.
