Best KC Credit Union?

I’m finally planning to start banking here in Kansas City and wanted to get some input. For those of you who use a local credit union, what’s your experience been like? Curious about things like customer service, fees, account requirements, mobile app usability basically the full picture. Have you had any issues or frustrating experiences I should be aware of?. Would love to hear what’s been great (or not so great) before I decide where to open an account.

I’ve been with CommunityAmerica Credit Union for over 6 years now and it’s been solid. Super friendly customer service and their mobile app is surprisingly modern. No crazy fees either. Plus, they partnered with the Chiefs for discounts and promos sometimes, which is a nice KC touch.

I had a weird experience with Mazuma....my card got flagged for suspicious activity every time I used it out of state, even when I notified them. App was clunky too. Switched to Credit Union of America and haven’t looked back!

Mazuma CU here. They’re okay-ish. Not the worst but def not the best. Branch folks are chill but the mobile app looks like it time-traveled from 2012. If mobile banking is a big deal for you, maybe look elsewhere.

+1 for CommunityAmerica. Their online banking is slick, and they have rewards checking that actually gives you interest. Can’t complain. Never had to pay a fee in 3 years. And they refund a few ATM fees monthly too

Bank Midwest has been meh for me, but I’ll admit I’m sticking around because I’m too lazy to switch everything over. My buddy swears by CommunityAmerica though.....he keeps bragging about their cashback debit card.

I’m with Holy Rosary Credit Union....tiny, yes, but really personal service. Like, they know your name and ask about your dog. Fees are low, but the tech side is very bare bones. It feels like banking in 2004.

Used to bank with First Federal in KC… left because their hours were terrible and online stuff barely worked. I like to handle things digitally, and it was a nightmare. Anyone know how Azura Credit Union is?

CommunityAmerica is basically the GOAT around here. Great rates, Chiefs-themed debit cards, mobile app that works, and branches everywhere. Only gripe: their overdraft system can be a little confusing.

Mazuma used to be awesome before they modernized. Now it’s just... eh. Staff turnover’s high and the new app update introduced more bugs than features. Might switch to Meritrust....heard good things?

My experience with Mazuma was fine, until I needed to dispute a charge. Took over two weeks to resolve and their communication was nonexistent. Not the vibe if you want stress-free banking.

I use Kansas City Credit Union (KCCU) and it’s small but mighty. Feels like you’re not just a number. They helped me set up a car loan when no one else would. Their app is simple but does the job.

Got both a personal and business account with CommunityAmerica. I love their business tools, and the customer support is actually helpful and not outsourced. Their bill pay system saved me during tax season!

Has anyone tried Mainstreet Credit Union? I’m torn between them and CACU. Looking for low-fee, easy-to-use app, and a decent savings rate. Appreciate any insight!

Mainstreet CU is fine if you don’t mind average digital tools. Their rates are good and they’re more forgiving than banks when it comes to overdrafts. Not flashy but reliable.

Holy Rosary gave me major 90s vibes. I swear their logo hasn’t changed since dial-up internet. But they were the only ones who’d approve my loan with my credit score, so respect

Is it just me or are all credit unions kinda behind on tech? I tried Mazuma and Mainstreet, and both mobile apps were janky. Ended up back with Chase despite my anti-big-bank leanings.

Honestly, switching to a CU was the best decision I made last year. No more ridiculous $35 overdraft fees for a $2 coffee. I use CACU and love how transparent they are with everything.

I’m a little old school so i appreciate Mainstreet’s in-person customer service. Always someone to help, and they’ve been patient with all my “what does this button do” questions online

I’ve been banking with a local credit union here in Kansas City for a couple of years now, and overall, it’s been a great experience. Customer service is way more personal than at big banks—they actually remember your name! Fees are generally low or even nonexistent if you meet basic requirements. The mobile app is decent—nothing fancy, but it gets the job done for transfers, deposits, and bill pay. One downside is fewer physical branches or ATMs, depending on the credit union. Still, I’d recommend it for the friendly service and local focus.
