What Are Your Credit Resolutions This Year?

With a new year (or new season) in full swing, I’ve been thinking a lot about my credit resolutions and what I want to accomplish financially over the next several months.

For me, that means finally paying off some lingering credit card debt, keeping my utilization under 30%, and monitoring my credit reports more consistently. I’ve also set a goal to bump my score by at least 50 points by the end of the year and maybe even get pre-approved for a mortgage if things go well.

Curious to hear what everyone else is working on. Whether you’re rebuilding from scratch, trying to hit that 700+ club, or just staying on top of good habits, drop your credit-related goals here. Let’s keep each other motivated and maybe even trade tips and progress updates.

No judgment just real people working on real goals.

My credit resolution is simple: survive grad school without wrecking my score. I’m currently juggling two student loans and a credit card that I use for groceries.
I just set up autopay for the minimums so I never forget a payment again. Might look into the Apple Card too since people say it reports fast.
Goal is to stay over 700 and not cry during finals

Not to be a downer, but credit scores feel like a scam sometimes. You do everything “right” and still get dinged for stuff like inquiries or high utilization in ONE month.
That said, I’m trying to game the system better. I’ve got a spreadsheet now. Plan to use the AZEO method and drop below 10% usage on all cards.
Also checking my reports every 2 months for shady stuff.

Paying off ALL consumer debt this year. I’m snowballing like crazy—just knocked out my $400 Chase card last week.
Still got $3K on Discover and $6K on a personal loan. But I’m motivated. Credit score’s at 656 right now.
Hoping to cross 700 by fall and maybe start saving for a wedding

Biggest thing i’m doing is setting reminders for statement closing dates. I used to pay on the due date but paying before the statement date dropped my reported utilization big time.
Also switched to using just 1 card and rotating it every couple months.
Oh and i froze my reports so I’m not tempted to “see what I’m preapproved for” and mess it all up

This year, i’m going full attack mode on my student loans and aiming to get my utilization down from 78% to under 20%. I started using the avalanche method and already see some movement. Goal is 750+ by December. I'm tired of being financially almost there.

My resolution is to not open another store card just for a dumb discount at checkout. Target lady almost got me again last week. I'm locking my credit file and throwing away all temptation. Also aiming to bring my score back up to pre-divorce levels.

Trying to heal from the chaos of last year....medical bills wiped me out. I’m working on setting up autopay for everything and watching my score like a hawk. I just want peace of mind when I log into Credit Karma, not anxiety-induced nausea.

Honestly my resolution is to game the points system. I’ve got a solid 740+ score, so now I’m opening cards strategically for sign-up bonuses and travel hacks. Already got $400 cashback and a free hotel night. Play the game, just don’t get played.

Finally opened a secured card after years of being scared to try again. My resolution is simple: build trust with money again. One bill. One card. One goal: 650. Baby steps feel huge when you're starting over, ya know?

After my ex tanked my credit co-signing for a car he didn’t even drive (long story), my resolution is revenge via excellent credit. I’m at 610 now and hungry. I’m gonna glow up my credit report so hard it’ll hurt his eyes

Just got out of collections hell. My resolution: never go back. I’m finally on a DMP (debt management plan) and i cry happy tears every time i see a $0 balance. My score is crawling up from the 500s and I’m proud of every inch.

I'm focusing on keeping my utilization under 10% and paying off the last of our remodel debt. After that, it’s smooth sailing. I want to hit 800+ and just chill. Already teaching my kids about credit so they don’t have to learn the hard way.

This is the year i stop avoiding my credit report. I used to pretend if i didn’t see it, it didn’t exist. But now i am tracking disputes, checking all 3 bureaus, and working with Lexington. Goal: remove 3 charge-offs.

2025 is the year of financial healing. I got approved for my first unsecured card since 2020!! Using it for Spotify and paying it off weekly like clockwork. It feels small but it's actually huge for my confidence.

My resolution is to not DoorDash myself into debt again. Last year’s financial audit revealed I spent $1,100 on fast food. I’m meal prepping, budgeting, and paying $200/month toward my Amex until it's gone.
