Looking into ways to improve my credit and keep coming across companies that advertise themselves as “credit repair” services or “credit repairmen.” They all make big promises about removing negative marks, fixing your score quickly, and dealing with creditors on your behalf.
I’m a bit skeptical though. From what I understand, most negative items on a credit report can’t just be erased unless they’re genuinely inaccurate. So I’m wondering if hiring a credit repair company is actually worth the money, or if it’s basically just paying someone to do what I could do myself by disputing errors and practicing good credit habits.
Has anyone here ever worked with a credit repair service? Did it actually help improve your score, or did you feel like it was a waste of money? Also, are there any red flags I should watch out for if I do consider one?
I’m trying to figure out if it’s better to go the DIY route checking reports, disputing mistakes, paying down balances or if a professional really makes a difference in situations like this
