Credit Repair in Oregon

Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone in Oregon who’s trying to clean up their credit, whether it's for a car loan, apartment, or just peace of mind.

I’m in the Portland area and finally started taking my credit seriously earlier this year after realizing a couple of old debts and missed payments were really holding me back. My score had dipped into the low 500s and I kept getting denied for stuff even basic financing.
Went with Omega after talking to a few reps. They didn’t give me a magic fix timeline or overhype it, which I appreciated. So far they’ve removed 3 negative marks, and I’ve been using a secured card + lowered my utilization. I’m finally seeing progress and it feels good.
if others have gone the DIY route, used local services, or have credit-building tips that worked. Happy to share more about what I did too if anyone’s starting from scratch

I’m in Eugene and i used Credit Karma to monitor my score and did the DIY route. Disputed a few things myself and got two old medical collections removed. It took time but didn’t cost me anything. Not for everyone but if you’re patient it’s doable.

I’m working with Lexington Law right now. Pricey, but they’ve been decent so far. Honestly what helped me most was getting a secured card through my credit union and just never missing a payment. That alone boosted me like 80 points over a few months.

Props to Omega for not feeding you the we can fix it in 30 days BS. A lot of these companies overpromise like crazy. I'm glad you’re seeing results..credit repair is a slow grind but every little bump up is a win.

I’m over in Salem and used the Oregon Consumer League for advice. They pointed me to some nonprofits that offer legit counseling for free or cheap. Don’t sleep on local credit unions either, they’re super forgiving and way better than big banks.

Was at 480 last year. Divorce wrecked me financially. Did it myself used goodwill letters, settled with two collectors, and opened a self-lender account. Not gonna lie took 10 months to crack 600 but it’s trending up. It’s a marathon.

Anyone else use Credit Strong? i started with them and after 12 months, my score jumped 90 points. No removals or anything, just on time installment payments reported monthly. Kinda like hacking the system legally lol.

I tried one of those pay-per-deletion places in Beaverton… never again. Paid upfront and they ghosted me after a few weeks. Ended up filing a BBB complaint. If you go with a company read every review.

Mad respect to anyone doing the DIY route. I got overwhelmed reading about FCRA and Metro 2 formatting and gave up halfway. Omega sounds decent though. Did they help you with identity mix ups too?

Also from Portland and using Omega now too! They’ve been transparent and chill. Still early days but they already got one repo removed. I also froze LexisNexis and ChexSystems per their advice. Highly recommend freezing secondary bureaus.

I used to think credit was a scam like who even decided 30% utilization is the sweet spot? But now that I want a mortgage… yeah i’m playing the game. Got a Discover IT Secured and just pay it off weekly. Score is crawling up.

This might sound dumb but i just stopped using credit for a year. Paid everything in cash, saved like crazy and when i went back i got a low limit card and kept it under 10%. My score jumped 100 pts in 6 months. Sometimes less is more.

Have y’all tried calling the original creditor before disputing? i got an old Verizon bill removed just by asking nicely and explaining my situation. No formal disputes or anything. People sleep on the power of a phone call.

I’m in Medford and working with a local guy who does credit repair as part of mortgage prep. Not a big firm, just a former loan officer. He’s been super hands-on way better than those nationwide call centers IMO.

Respectfully not everyone has the time or mental energy to fight with debt collectors. I tried DIY and had a panic attack after the second phone call. I’ll gladly pay Omega if it means peace of mind.

I paid off a charged-off card, thinking it would help. My score dropped. Apparently paying doesn’t always mean deleting. Learned the hard way to negotiate for deletion first then pay.

NerdWallet has a really good beginner’s guide on this. Helped me understand utilization, average age of accounts and why opening too many cards fast is bad. Education is half the battle.

Used the Self app and opened a secured Discover. Didn’t bother with third parties. I figured if the bureaus are slow... i might as well give them something good to report while waiting.

Someone told me rent payments can be reported now too? i signed up for one of those rent reporting services. Not sure if it helps but every little bit counts when you’re clawing your way up from 520.
