how to remove late payments from credit report

I recently had a late payment reported on my credit report which dropped my score by nearly 50 points despite having an 8 year perfect history with Citi. it happened bcz my autopay failed and i didn't realize it until it was too late. then i called customer support multiple times requesting a goodwill adjustment but they kept saying they couldn’t remove accurate information. frustrated, i researched and found executive contacts for Citi including the CEOs email. I sent a polite yet firm goodwill letter explaining my longstanding relationship with the bank and how this was a onetime mistake. suprisingly a representative from the executive office called me the next day expressing understanding and agreeing to submit a request for removal to the credit bureaus. Within a week the late payment was gone and my score bounced back.

Going straight to the executive level was a smart move. A lot of people give up after the first ‘no’ from customer service but as you showed, escalating politely and emphasizing a strong customer relationship can make a difference.

This is a great reminder that goodwill adjustments can work, even when banks initially say no. It’s all about how you approach it

Thats a huge win! proof that persistence and escalating to executive contacts can work. thanks for sharingthis gives hope to others dealing with stubborn creditors.

Thats awesome! persistence really paid off for you. Its frustrating when autopay fails but great job taking the initiative and escalating it the right way
