Credit Repair Sales Jobs

I live in Texas and recently helped a few friends fix up their credit. They were super happy with the results and actually encouraged me to start doing it as a small side gig to make a little extra money.

I’ve only ever helped people I know, so they just gave me their info and trusted me to take care of everything, but I realize that probably wouldn’t fly with strangers and could come off sketchy if I don’t do it the right way.

I’m not looking to turn this into a full-time business or anything big. I just want to help people and maybe earn a small amount on the side for my time. What would I need to do to make it official and legal in Texas? Are there specific licenses, forms, or rules I should know about?

Yup if you're charging for credit repair in Texas you need to register as a Credit Services Organization (CSO). It’s under the Texas Finance Code, Chapter 393. You'll need a surety bond too usually $10k. It’s not just paperwork it protects your clients if anything goes sideways.

Been there! Started just like you..helping cousins, then friends of friends, then boom, I had 30 clients definitely get a contract in place even if you're doing it casually. People forget what they agreed to real quick.

Don’t forget the Federal Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA). That’s national law. No charging upfront, everything in writing, 3-day cancellation rights, etc. It’s a lot of regulation for a side gig tbh.

Honestly if someone random asked me for my SSN and credit info, i’d run faster than my credit score dropping after a missed payment. Gotta look legit or you’ll scare folks off.

Texas doesn’t mess around with consumer protection. That CSO registration isn’t optional. Also maybe look into getting E&O insurance in case a client tries to sue you for not magically fixing their 400 FICO.

As someone who does taxes for small biz owners, i’d say get an LLC to keep things clean. Doesn’t cost much in TX and it’ll protect you legally. Plus it helps when filing income from side hustles.

Been doing credit repair for 4 years! It’s fulfilling but HIGH maintenance. The disputes, follow-ups, keeping logs, educating clients… whew. Make sure you really want this even part time.

Biggest thing? Don’t promise results. You can say we’ll dispute inaccuracies not i’ll get you a 700 score in 60 days. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Hey props for wanting to do it right. A lotta people just wing it. Look into software like DisputeBee or Credit Repair Cloud....they help automate the boring stuff.

Create a basic website. Even a free Wix page makes you look more real. Add testimonials with permission from your friends. Presentation goes a long way.

Bruh please don’t take peoples info over DMs or texts. Use secure portals. Like, encrypted and password protected. I’ve seen too many identity theft horror stories.

Have you thought about just joining an existing credit repair company as a rep/affiliate? Less liability, less setup, still helps people.

Fixing credit can sometimes mean just teaching folks how to pay their bills. If that’s what you’re doing just market it as budgeting advice and call it a day lol.

If you're doing credit repair for pay even as a side hustle....u need to register as a Credit Services Organization (CSO) in Texas. It’s a legal requirement and includes a $100 registration fee, a $10,000 surety bond and some disclosure forms. It sounds daunting but it's doable if you're serious.

I was in the same boat a year ago! Helped a few family members then their friends started asking. I didn’t realize how quick the demand grows. Make sure you’ve got consent forms and keep things transparent.....people get real weird when it comes to money and credit.

To stay compliant in Texas you’ll need to follow the Texas Finance Code Chapter 393. That means a contract, disclosures, no upfront fees unless you're a lawyer and that surety bond others mentioned. It’s not just about being good at fixing credit....it’s about doing it legally.

I started out the same way just helping friends. Now I have a legit part time gig set up with templates, contracts, and software. Definitely look into software like Credit Repair Cloud or Client Dispute Manager if u want to save time.

Props for wanting to help others while keeping it legal. That's rare these days. You might also consider teaming up with a local nonprofit or financial advisor. Keeps you safe and opens up more clients too.
