Credit Repair Timeshare

I’m really just trying to get some honest feedback here. For those of you who fully own your timeshare (no outstanding loan) but have stopped paying the annual maintenance fees, did it actually affect your credit?

I’ve seen tons of warnings about accounts going to collections and credit scores being ruined, but I can’t tell if that’s really happening to people or if it’s just scare tactics from the timeshare companies to keep owners paying.

I get that if you don’t pay the fees, you lose access to your points or usage, that part is clear. But as a last resort, I’m seriously considering not paying just to see if they’ll take the timeshare back. Before I go that route, I’d really love to hear if anyone here has actually been sent to collections or seen a negative impact on their credit from doing this.

Yeah i stopped paying my maintenance fees in 2020. No loan just the annual $1,200 nightmare. A year later, bam collections. They reported to my credit, and my score dropped about 70 points. It sucked. Eventually i paid a debt settlement just to stop the harassment. Definitely not just scare tactics in my case.

Same here! Mine went to collections about 9 months after i stopped paying. It didn’t hit my credit right away, but once the collector got involved..ouch. The annoying part is that i wasn’t even using the damn timeshare. Just wanted to return it. Instead i got a bill and a headache.

I ghosted my timeshare in 2018. Nothing......no collections, no credit drop. Just radio silence. I’m guessing they gave up or couldn’t find me? It might depend on which company you're dealing with. Mine was one of those sketchier resorts in Mexico so... who knows?

It’s not just scare tactics unfortunately. They will send it to collections and once it’s there, that collection agency won’t stop until you either pay or dispute it into oblivion. I’m still trying to get mine removed from my credit report. It’s been two years.

I stopped paying in hopes they’d take it back. I lost usage, sure but they kept billing me. Now i’ve got a collector breathing down my neck and a 40-point hit to my score. So yeah definitely not an out unless you’re cool with bad credit.

If you're trying to reverse uno your timeshare by not paying fees... good luck my friend. These companies are like clingy exes you think it’s over, but they keep popping up, wrecking your credit score and your day.

Mine went to collections but weirdly it didn’t show up on my credit. Maybe because i disputed it quickly? i did file a complaint with the CFPB and that seemed to help. Credit Karma never showed any drops.

Timeshare companies often do report to credit bureaus especially after assigning to collections. But enforcement varies. Some smaller outfits don’t bother. It’s a gamble not a strategy.

I’ve seen it wreck people’s credit and i’ve seen others walk away clean. My theory depends on the company, the state, and if you respond to their mail. The more u engage, the harder they try.

I get the temptation trust me. These maintenance fees are a scam. But my niece ignored hers for a year and her credit tanked. She had to get a co-signer for a car after that. Proceed with caution.

Yes i stopped paying my fees in 2021. In less than a year i was getting letters from FBCS debt collector. They hit my credit with a collection. It dropped my FICO by 62 points. Took me a full year to resolve. I wouldn’t risk it again.

Man, these timeshares are like cursed objects. Once you buy one you're just stuck unless you make a blood sacrifice. I tried everything. Called, begged, even offered to give it back. They laughed. Stopped paying and yep collections city.

check your credit report first. I stopped paying 8 months ago and I haven’t been hit yet. But i keep refreshing Credit Karma like it’s a stock ticker. Just waiting for the axe to fall.

If your contract gives them the right to report delinquent fees, they will. And even if you own it outright the maintenance fees are still contractual obligations. So yeah it can and often does affect your credit.

I've tried TurboTax, H&R Block, and Cash App Taxes. Honestly, TurboTax has the best interface IMO but it's pricey. Cash App Taxes is 100% free and pretty intuitive. Great if u have simple returns and don’t want to pay a dime.

I used FreeTaxUSA this year and was surprised how smooth it was. No upsells, clean interface, and it only cost me $15 to file state. The guided steps were clear and they explain stuff in simple terms.

For W-2 only folks with no dependents or investments Cash App Taxes is a gem. Totally free and the layout is clean. Doesn’t hold your hand quite like TurboTax but if you're confident, it's perfect.

I work freelance and have a mix of 1099s and W-2s. I tried TaxSlayer and honestly hated it. Switched to TaxAct this year and it was much better. Not perfect but definitely less glitchy.
