Credit Score Required for PayPal Credit

Has anyone here applied for PayPal Credit recently? I’m trying to figure out what kind of credit score is actually needed to get approved. From what I’ve seen online, some people say it’s possible with a score in the low 600s, while others claim you need to be closer to 670 or higher. It’s hard to know what’s accurate since experiences seem all over the place.

I know PayPal Credit is issued by Synchrony Bank, which usually looks at more than just the score like income, debt-to-income ratio, and overall credit history. But still, having a ballpark idea of the score range would be helpful before I decide to apply, especially since I don’t want to take an unnecessary hard inquiry if my chances are low.

For those who’ve been approved or denied, what was your score at the time? Did it show up as a hard pull on your credit report? And if you got approved, did it end up helping your credit by reporting positive payment history?

I got approved for PayPal Credit with a 634 Experian FICO last summer. I was honestly shocked because I had two charge-offs from a few years back. They only gave me a $500 limit, but hey, it worked for what I needed. It was a hard pull for me, though..showed up on Experian.

For me it was around 670 when I applied and got approved instantly. They gave me $1,200. What I noticed is that Synchrony seems to care more about recent payment history than just score. I had one card at 80% utilization but no lates for two years.

Denied here with a 620. I was hoping to use it for a big PayPal purchase, but they flat out rejected me. Weirdly, I had zero derogatories, just high utilization. Kinda salty because I thought Synchrony was more lenient.

I was approved in 2022 with a 605 TU FICO. They gave me $750. I paid it off within a few months and they eventually bumped it up. So yeah, low 600s can definitely get through, but it seems like YMMV based on income and history.

Hard pull confirmed. It hit my Equifax report last year. I had a 665 at the time, got $1,000 limit. Honestly not worth the ding unless you really need it because they rarely increase limits.

I think people underestimate Synchrony’s randomness. I had a 720 and got denied. The letter said too many inquiries. So yeah, score matters, but not as much as the whole profile.

Got approved with a 640 but my buddy with 670 got denied the same week. We both applied for the same reason....a gaming laptop. I think debt-to-income ratio plays a bigger role than folks realize.

I applied with a 590 just for the heck of it. Instant denial. Lesson learned: don’t poke Synchrony unless you’re at least in the 600s or you’ll just waste a hard inquiry.

From my experience, PayPal Credit does not report like a normal credit card. It only shows up if you’re late. Mine never reported my on-time payments, which was kinda annoying. Anyone else see that?

I had a 678 when I got approved, $1,400 limit. I never really use it now. I thought it would help with my utilization, but since it doesn’t report, it’s basically invisible.

That’s why I never bother with store cards or PayPal Credit. They’re mostly traps. Better off applying for an actual cashback card with a $200 sign-up bonus instead of a ghost tradeline.

Got denied with a 665. Reasons listed were short credit history and too high utilization. I had only 2 years of credit history. So yeah, Synchrony seems to like longer profiles.

I’m sitting at 630 and debating applying. Reading this thread makes me think I might have a 50/50 shot. Honestly though, the fact that it doesn’t report makes me less motivated.

My denial came at 655. Their reasoning? Insufficient revolving credit. I had three cards at the time, all low limits. Kinda feels like they’re just picky about who they want.

Not sure if this is helpful but I applied at 610 and got approved for $600. Used it for a phone, paid it off, closed it after realizing it wasn’t helping my credit. No regrets.

Mine was a soft pull. Applied in October 2022. I had around 660. I don’t know if something changed since then, but nothing showed up on my reports. Got approved for $900.
