I recently came across a service called the Great American Credit Repair Company, and I’m wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them.
They claim to help with things like removing negative items, improving your score, and offering credit education but as with any credit repair company, I want to make sure it’s not all just hype. There are so many companies out there making bold promises and I’ve learned to be cautious before signing up for anything.
So I’m asking Is the Great American Credit Repair Company legit?
 
I've actually used them for a few months. They did help get one collection account removed but i still had to follow up with the credit bureaus myself. Not a scam but definitely not magic. You still have to put in some work.
 
Tried them last year. Paid for three months, saw zero improvement. When I asked for an explanation, they said results may vary. I mean, sure but for $99 a month i expect some movement!
 
Their credit education resources are solid, i’ll give them that. I learned more about utilization and disputes than i ever did in school. But if you’re looking for overnight fixes, this ain’t it.
 
My cousin used them and had like 5 collections removed. He swears by them. But i looked into it and saw some mixed BBB reviews. Proceed with caution, i guess?
 
Funny how every credit repair company sounds like a miracle worker on their website but dodges accountability when stuff doesn’t work. Great American sounds... generic. Anyone else think that?
 
They helped me raise my score from 540 to 610 over 6 months. Slow and steady. Not bad but also not miraculous. I liked the transparency in their portal though you can see what they’re disputing.
 
Honestly, the best credit repair company is you. Pull your reports, dispute errors yourself, and pay your bills on time. No one cares about your score like you do.
 
I signed up with them in early 2023. They did remove 3 collections and one late payment, which was impressive. But it took almost 4 months and a lot of follow-up emails. Their education portal is decent, nothing groundbreaking though. Just be prepared for slow progress and monthly fees.
 
My cousin used them and swears by their service. He had 520 and jumped to around 660 in 6 months. I was skeptical at first but seeing the results made me a believer. That said, everyone's report is different......don’t expect miracles if your score's tanked due to recent bankruptcies.
 
Honestly i don’t trust any company that claims they can guarantee results. Credit repair isn’t magic......it’s mostly sending dispute letters. You could technically do that yourself with a little time and research. But hey if you’re busy and don’t mind paying, maybe it's worth it.
 
Save your money and do it yourself. I cleaned up my credit using free templates from Reddit and a little elbow grease. Most of what these companies do, you can do too.....just need some patience and understanding of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
 
Funny you mention them. I called for a consult and they seemed super pushy like sign today or you’ll miss out energy. Big red flag for me. If someone’s trying to scare you into a financial decision, it’s usually not a good idea.
 
I actually had a great experience! They explained everything in detail, weren’t pushy and actually gave me a month-to-month option instead of locking me in. They got a charge-off removed from my TransUnion report. It took time but it was worth it.
 
Their ads sound good, but anyone who says they can boost your score fast is either overselling or doesn’t understand how credit scoring works. Real growth comes from building healthy habits over time: paying on time, keeping utilization low, etc.
 
Been with them for 2 months. They’ve removed 2 inquiries so far, which is nice but i haven’t seen a big jump yet. I’m giving it another month before deciding to stay or bounce. Their customer support is decent, though......i'll give them that.
 
Credit repair companies remind me of diet pills. Some people swear by them, others say it’s a scam and the truth is probably somewhere in between. Depends on your expectations and how bad your credit is to begin with.
 
If you're evaluating them, ask:

Are they bonded as required by law?

Do they comply with the Credit Repair Organizations Act?

Do they offer a written contract and let you cancel within 3 days?
If not, run.
 
Been with them since March. They were slow at first but once i escalated my ticket, i got some movement. Got two late payments removed that were seriously hurting me. Not a miracle cure but better than nothing.
