When dealing with tax issues companies like optima Tax relief promise to help taxpayers reduce their IRS debt. But is it a legitimate service or just an expensive gamble? Have you used optima tax relief? any comments
 
dont just throw money away always check if you qualify for IRS relief programs before paying someone else to do it.
if you’re just paying them to set up a payment plan you could do yourself

Have you spoken with the IRS directly? sometimes they offer options without needing a third party.
 
Tried to go with Optima. Paid $495 for their investigation phase and then ghosted them after realizing they wanted another $3K before doing anything else.
 
Not defending Optima, but I was having panic attacks trying to talk to the IRS. For me, having someone else take the wheel was worth every penny.
 
Used them in 2021. Paid like $3,500. They did help lower my debt, but honestly, most of it i could’ve done myself if i wasn’t so panicked. They're not a scam but definitely overpriced for what they do.
 
The IRS actually has a free program called the Offer in Compromise. A lot of these companies just do that on your behalf. You're paying for hand holding. Sometimes worth it or sometimes not.
 
Look, most of what Optima does u can do yourself if you're willing to read IRS Form 9465 and maybe make a few phone calls. You’re essentially paying for convenience + peace of mind. That’s not inherently a scam but it's expensive peace.
