What’s an Advantage of a Debit Card Compared to a Credit Card? (APEX)

Just wanted to chime in on this for anyone wondering about the difference. One clear advantage of a debit card over a credit card is that you're spending your own money, not borrowed money. That means there's no risk of going into debt or paying interest, which can definitely sneak up on you with credit cards if you’re not careful.

With a debit card, you can manage your budget more easily because you're limited to what's in your account great for staying on track financially especially if you’re still building money habits or want to avoid credit altogether.

Anyone else prefer debit for certain purchases?

100%....... Debit cards keep me honest. Can’t spend what i don’t have unless i overdraft… which I’ve definitely done before

Actually debit cards don’t offer the same fraud protection as credit. Learned that the hard way when someone bought $300 worth of Crocs on my account

Not gonna lie, i use debit just to avoid the anxiety of forgetting to pay my credit card bill. I don’t need that stress.

I’d argue credit builds credit history which is pretty vital for car loans, mortgages, etc. Debit doesn’t help with that at all.

Absolutely agree. Debit cards are great if you’re trying to avoid interest or debt traps. They’re like built-in budget enforcers.....once you’re out of money, you’re out. No tempting safety net.

I switched to using mostly debit after running up $8k in credit card debt in college. Never again. If I don’t have it in my account, I don’t spend it....simple

Yeah, but what about fraud protection? Credit cards usually win there. With debit, you’re waiting for your actual money to be refunded. That sucks.

Totally get this. I’m on a financial reset and debit has helped me feel more in control. I check my account way more now before impulse buying.
